CARES Sites

The Orange Unified School District CARES (Centers for Afterschool Recreation, Enrichment and Safety) provides a safe, stable and stimulating environment for school age children.  The CARES Program is based on the principle that after school care programs exist for the purpose of promoting, supporting and enhancing school age children's development.

Each center is staffed by a CARES Site Coordinator, Instructor and an Assistant. CARES staff have a minimum of 12 units in Human Growth and Development, a Children's Center Permit, or an Elementary Teaching Credential issued by the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.  Assistant Leaders and Aides meet necessary District requirements for education and experience in child care.

Children choose from a daily list of activities offered in an open classroom setting.  Both indoor and outdoor learning experiences are provided with time for active play as well as time to relax, read, do homework and participate in quiet activities.  Each site offers before and after-school care to correspond with each school's daily schedule.

ADMISSION:

The child must attend the school where the program is offered.  The program is open to students in Transitional Kindergarten through 6th grade (through 8th grade at McPherson Magnet School, contingent on space).
