State Superintendent Names Nine OUSD Title I Academic Achieving Schools
Orange, CA - May 20, 2016 - State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced additional honors for Title I elementary schools that were recognized as California Gold Ribbon Schools. Orange Unified School District is honored to announce that nine of our Title I elementary schools were also named Title I Academic Achieving Schools, tied with another district for the most in Orange County.
Congratulations go out to California, Fairhaven, Handy, Lampson, Palmyra, Prospect, Sycamore, Taft and West Orange Elementary Schools on receiving this distinguished honor in addition to being named California Gold Ribbon Schools.
“I’m delighted to honor these schools and programs, which are doing a tremendous job preparing our students for 21st century opportunities and graduating lifelong learners in the process,” Torlakson said.
Title I schools receive federal funds that aid in meeting the educational needs of socio-economically disadvantaged students. These nine schools are being recognized for their dedication in having the vision in establishing effective and engaging programs and services to actively close the achievement gaps on their campuses and address the varying needs of the student populations they serve.
Each site will be presented with a plaque at a regional event in May/June.
