OUSD New School Site Administrators Announced – Villa Park High School Principal, Six Elementary Principals and the Coordinator of Alternative Education
ORANGE, CA – June 10, 2016 – The Orange Unified School District (OUSD) Board of Education appointed Ken Miller, Ed.D., to High School Principal; Diane Lew, Heriberto (Heri) Angel Jr, Sara Pelly, Eduardo (Eddie) Espinosa to the positions of Elementary Principals, and Justin Stanfield to Coordinator of Alternative Education during their regular scheduled board meeting on May 26, 2016. Jeremy Mortensen, principal of Cambridge has been assigned to Panorama Elementary School as the principal.
Secondary Assignments
Ken Miller, Ed.D., was appointed to Villa Park High School as Principal. Dr. Miller has served for the past two years as the District’s Administrative Director of Student and Community Services. Prior to that Dr. Miller successfully served as Principal of Cerro Villa Middle School from 2010 through 2014. Before his assignment at CVMS, he was an Assistant Principal at El Modena High School for three years. Prior to coming to Orange Unified School District, Dr. Miller worked in the Downey Unified School District as a High School Vice Principal. Dr. Miller was a high school teacher and football coach. Ken Miller holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Sonoma State University, a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Azusa Pacific University, and a Doctorate in Administration and Leadership from the University of Southern California. He holds an Administrative Services Credential as well as a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Social Science.
Justin Stanfield was appointed to the position of Coordinator of Alternative Schools. Justin Stanfield is currently an Assistant Principal at Villa Park High School, and has been in that assignment for the past five years. Prior to his coming to Orange Unified School District, Mr. Stanfield worked as a high school and middle school teacher in the Irvine Unified School District, and as a high school teacher in the Anaheim Union High School District. Justin Stanfield holds a holds a Bachelor’s degree in History from Cal State Dominguez Hills, and a Master’s degree in Cross Cultural Learning from National University. He also holds a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Social Science and an Administrative Services Credential.
Elementary Assignments
Jeremy Mortenson has been assigned to Panorama Elementary School. Mr. Mortensen earned an Administrative Services Credential and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. He has been involved in education for 16 years. He has lived and taught all over the world including Canada and Australia where he also earned his Masters of Education degree at Griffith University and taught at Surfers Paradise State School. He has teaching experience from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Fontana, California, where he earned the Teacher of the Year award in 2005. Mr. Mortensen taught grades three through seventh during his time in the classroom. He was an Assistant Principal and Principal in Colton before coming to OUSD four years ago where he has been serving as the principal at Cambridge Elementary.
Diane Lew was assigned as Principal of Cambridge Elementary School. Diane Lew comes to this position from her current administrative assignment where she served as one of the Orange Unified School District’s Special Education Coordinators. She has two years of experience in this assignment. Prior to serving a Special Education Coordinator, Diane Lew worked as an elementary school Resource Specialist and Special Day Class teacher in the Orange Unified School District. She also has experience as an elementary and middle school classroom teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Diane holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from San Francisco State University and a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from National University. Diane has a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, an Education Specialist Instructional Credential for Mild to Moderate Disabilities, and an Administrative Services Credential.
Heriberto (Heri) Angel Jr. was assigned as Principal of Esplanade Elementary School. Prior to this assignment, Mr. Angel was a high school assistant principal at Orange High School. Mr. Angel has served as Assistant Principal at Orange High School for the past two years. Prior to his assignment at Orange High, Heri Angel worked as Assistant Principal at Portola Middle School in Orange Unified. Before coming to Orange Unified, Mr. Angel’s professional experience included service as Dean of Students and as a classroom teacher at the middle school and elementary school levels in the Lynwood Unified School District. Mr. Angel holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Global Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Loyola Marymount University. Mr. Angel has a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and an Administrative Services Credential. Mr. Angel is bilingual, being fluent in both English and Spanish.
Sara Pelly, comes to OUSD from the Centralia School District where she served as an elementary principal since 2008. She has been appointed as Principal of Fletcher Elementary School. Sara Pelly is a former teacher in the Orange Unified School District. Her teaching experience includes teaching at Crescent Primary School in Orange Unified, as well as service in Centralia as a classroom teacher and as a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA). Ms. Pelly holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Phillips University in Oklahoma, and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Chapman University. She has a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and an Administrative Services Credential.
Eduardo (Eddie) Espinosa was appointed as Principal of Jordan Elementary. Mr. Espinosa was most recently an Assistant Principal with Orange Unified School District for the past four years. Eddie Espinosa has had a long career in Orange Unified, having served as a middle school counselor, elementary and high school resource teacher, elementary and high school classroom teacher, and most recently as Assistant Principal. At one point in his career, he also taught high school in the Irvine Unified School District. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Linguistics from California State University, Fullerton, as well as a Master’s degree in Education-Counseling and a Master’s degree in Education-Administration, both from Azusa Pacific University. Mr. Espinosa holds several teaching credentials including a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Spanish, a Standard Elementary Teaching Credential, a Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling, a Specialist Instruction Credential in Bilingual Cross-cultural Education for Spanish, a Bilingual Certificate of Competence in Spanish, and an Administrative Services Credential.
