OUSD Graduation Rate Increases

ORANGE, CA – June 17, 2016 – The most recent graduation rate was released by the California Department of Education for the 2014 – 2015 school year.  The data reveals an increase across the board for Orange Unified as compared to the 2013 – 2014 school year.  The overall rate was not only an increase for OUSD, but was 11.3 percentage points higher than the State overall rate.

Of the four high schools, El Modena showed the largest gain of 1.5 percentage point growth over the last two years.  Orange High School closely followed with a 1.4 percentage point growth in the last two years.  Villa Park showed a slight increase of 0.02 percentage point growth in the same time period.  Canyon had a slight decrease with 0.04 percentage point loss over the two years.

In addition to the overall graduation rate increasing, OUSD saw growth in significant subgroups.  The most notable area of growth was Students with Disabilities showing a 10 percentage point gain.  Further, Students with Disabilities had a 21.6 percentage point higher than the State rate.

African American students grew by 3.2 percentage points over the last two years.  The African American students’ graduation rate was 18.1 percentage points higher than the State rate.

Low Income students grew by 2.4 percentage points over the last two years.  The Low Income students’ graduation rate was 13.6 percentage points higher than the State rate.

Hispanic students grew by 1.8 percentage points over the last two years.  The Hispanic students’ graduation rate was 14.5 percentage points higher than the State rate.

Both Asian and White students grew by 0.3 percentage points over the last two years.  The Asian students’ graduation rate was 5.2 percentage points higher than the State rate.  The White students’ graduation rate was 5.5 percentage points higher than the State rate.

This growth further exemplifies that Orange Unified School District is a “District of Excellence.”
