OUSD Announces Launch of New Website
Orange, CA – February 9, 2018 – Orange Unified School District will officially debut a new and improved website on Monday, February 12. In addition to the new design platform, the District has adopted a leading-edge Web Accessibility solution, AudioEye, to improve communication with all District stakeholders.
The AudioEye technology will help optimize the District website, providing everyone with a customizable, fully inclusive digital experience in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). After an initial 100-day processing and review period, AudioEye will allow users to customize their experience though a suite of free assistive web personalization utilities that conform to WCAG 2.0 Level AA. This will ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to participate in the many services provided by Orange Unified’s District, department, and individual school websites.
The web platform and supplementary Web Accessibility solution were Board-approved on May 11, 2017 and July 27, 2017, respectively.
When not coded properly, websites can be difficult or impossible to access by people that rely on assistive technologies to navigate the digital world. In the same sense that a building must provide certain physical accommodations - ramps, rails, wide doorways, elevators - websites should provide accommodations in the digital space.
